Uploading Your Files

There are many ways to upload your files to your new TeamMediaOnline.com account. We will review a few of the most popular programs/tools (FTP programs, the File Manager from your account Control Panel, and programs like Frontpage and Dreamweaver). No matter which method you choose, you have 24/7/365 access to your files and your account.

General FTP Instructions
FTP: ws_ftp
FTP: Fetch
Dreamweaver
FrontPage

In most cases these programs will ask for the following information:

User Name: Selected at ordering
Password: Assigned by server upon signup
IP or domain
Virtual Plans will use: http://server/~username/
(This upload information is also in your welcome email)
Host Directory: www

Use CAUTION as you explore your hosting options included with your account. We have made our tools easy to use. Just like anything new you will need to become familiar with the operations of our systems. Don't assume! We will do everything we can to help you find the resources necessary to become a successful webmaster. Below you will find some general pointers to help you get started.

The Files In Your Account

When you initially log into your account you will see a directory listing similar to the following:

yourdomain-logs
yourdomain-mail
yourdomain-secure
yourdomain-www
www

DO NOT DELETE OR RENAME any of these directories. These directories are automatically setup by the system and required in order for your account to function. Deleting or renaming any of them will cause fatal errors that can only be repaired by deleting and resetting your account.

Of these directories, the www directory is the only one you will use. This is the directory where you will upload your web pages and create other subdirectories that will pertain to your web site. Your pages WILL NOT be viewable on a web browser unless they are uploaded to this directory.

When you initially enter your www directory, you will see a directory/file listing similar to the following:

cgi-bin: Where all your cgi-scripts are located (Sometime referred to as Personal cgi-bin)
stats: Location of your statistical program
index.html: The basic under construction page. This is the default page for your site. When you create a new design your first page will need to be named index.html.

Again, DO NOT DELETE OR RENAME any of the directories within this folder. These are directories created by the system and are required in order for your account to function.

As you add options from your Control Panel, such as the Miva, Search Engine, Mail Lists, or any other options you utilize from the Control Panel, the system will automatically create other directories within this area. Any files created by these programs are there for a particular purpose and should not be deleted.

Below is a description of the different directories you may or may not see when you log into your account at any given time depending on what options you have utilized from your Control Panel. These are only descriptions and these directories should not be altered in any way unless we have instructed you to above.

File/Directory Name - Description

domain-anonftp - this folder is used for your anonymous users to download public files.
domain-web-logs - this folder contains all access logs of visitors to your site
domain-mail - this folder holds all POP mail accounts for your domain
domain-www - this folder stores all html files for your domain (same folder as the www folder)
www - this is where you put all your html files and subdirectories (same folder as the domain-www folder)
domain-secure - this folder stores all secure html files (same folder as www folder and domain-www folder) this is an aliases folder that is secure when the right URL path is called correctly. Example: https://secure-server.net/domain_name/file.name

Where and how to upload your files
ALL files must be uploaded to your www directory in your account. Please read above section All the files in your account.

How to view your pages on the internet
You can view your pages within any browser by typing the following in the URL.

http://www.yourdomain.com
http://yourdomain.com
www.yourdomain.com
http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html
http://yourdomain.com/index.html
www.yourdomain.com/index.html

If you are getting an error when typing the above several things could have gone wrong, these are as follows:

1) Your initial page is not named index.html
2) The code in your index.html page is incorrect
3) Your registration/transfer has not yet been completed. This process can take up to 72 hours. If it has been 72 hours, contact the registrar responsible for maintaining your domain registration.
4) Your account has been deactivated due to nonpayment or noncompliance of our policies.
